Tuesday night Shamata practice at Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 12th floor. We are usually in Room #4 up the stairs from 12th floor and around right/right...NOT Room 1208 as it is stated. It would be best to check the scheduling board or ask at front desk. Rest room is to the left of the stairs. We start with 20 minutes meditation at 7pm.. you can get some instruction in meditation if you show up at around 6:40pm. Then we do chanting (sadhana practice) from texts in Tibetan, English in texts, which involves visualization, and this cannot be explained in a short time...but we are now having explanation of the Amitabha practice afterwards for 20 minutes line by line, our second session of this starting 1/13/15.

This is in regard to the Tuesday night Shamatha (sitting meditation) practice at Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 12th Floor. It turns out that this group is very much NOT a beginner group. It's a small group (6-10 practitioners) that meditates, chants, and does a bit of reading/discussing. It's very moving. But on the night I was there, it was obvious they are not able to accommodate a newcomer. They said for a while they were holding beginner classes, but those aren't happening these days. If you're new to Tibetan Buddhism, I recommend you look elsewhere. Then again, if you've got even a little bit of experience, I would recommend you check this group out - they seem warm, open, and dedicated.

This group is an excellent way to bring together a great group of people who are interested in Buddhism and would like to attend events throughout the city.
