Night Skiing at Holiday Valley

Lets avoid the crowds and costs and go skiing/boarding during a week night.

Next Monday is the first option, but I'm flexible to move it to later days/weeks or hold the event more than once. Holiday Valley offers several discounts on week nights. Here's some of the promotions:

  • College Nights: Present your valid college ID at the main ticket window for a $28 night lift ticket Sunday through Thursday. Ticket valid 4PM - 10PM.
  • McDonalds 2 for 1: With the purchase of McCafe Beverages or Hot Chocolate at McDonalds, receive a coupon good for 2 lift tickets for the price of one, valid Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday nights (4PM to 10 PM), beginning January 2 through March 13, 2013. Participating stores are: Jamestown, Fredonia, Westfield, Salamanca, Bradford, Cuba, Wellsville, Coudersport, Arcade, Olean, Titusville, Springville, Gowanda, and Warren PA.
  • Intense Milk Winter of Fun lift ticket offer: Bring in the cap from a specially marked bottle of Intense Milk and get 2 lift tickets for the price of one valid Monday through Wednesday nights from 4-10 PM.

Just got back from Dick's Sporting Goods. Got snow pants on a 40% discount! Would still like to get a warmer hat and waterproof gloves.

When is everyone free for another excursion? I'm generally good on Monday and Wednesday nights. On Saturday the 23rd, I volunteered to work at ECMC from 9-5pm and might be drained afterwards? Sundays look good too. :)

Katherine and Ben, thanks for offering to help a new boarder learn! :) I'm excited for it!

Always happy to teach someone how to board. It also gives me a chance to sharpen my skills on the bunny slope. :) As for gear, I would say get gloves...maybe even mittens and rent a helmet. Then you don't really need a hat...maybe a scarf or one of those pull over things that covers a good part of your face if your jacket doesn't cover your neck well. It can get cold out there! My ability to head back out really depends on when my elbow is back to full function. Hopefully by next week.

The 2-for-1 deal works well... ends up being $16 per person. I'll look at setting up another Monday or Wednesday night event when the weather looks favorable.

I'd love to get some more boarding time in before the season ends. This upcoming week is no good and I'm recovering from a sprained elbow, but once I'm healed up I'm game. I'd also be willing to teach people who want to learn how to board.

Hey, this looks like a great idea. I just joined meetup, but I was at holiday valley last weekend for the first time, and had a blast. I'd love to get involved in a trip out there (and wouldn't mind giving some beginning snowboarding lessons to people who are new to the sport). My problem is transportation, so if this takes off I'd need to find someone willing to carpool (i'd chip for gas of course)

O.K. I'm officially on board for Monday night. If you're still interested hit me up: [masked] and we will coordinate some shreddage.

I'm going to buy some snow pants this weekend - have really been wanting to learn/try snowboarding - Can we do another trip sometime soon? I'm always good to drive.

      Awesome dog BTW :)

Hey Kevin! I'd love to try snowboarding! I've never done either before, and am wondering: How much extra is a board rental with the lift ticket? What gear do I need (goggles, etc.) and is that for rental too? Is Holiday Valley a good beginner's spot? Do you recommend I take a lesson prior to going?

Generally free on weekends and Mondays - I have plans for this upcoming Monday, but please keep me posted, and thanks for posting this!

Other than that, you should have some decent snow pants. Goggles are helpful if it's snowing, but I do have an extra set. Also, there is a special $18 pass for just the beginner area if you don't want to get the normal night pass. Hour lessons are $22, but there's a package deal for $75 including everything (beginner pass, equipment, and 1.5 hour lesson).

Sorry, board rentals are actually $26... I was looking in the wrong column. If you go on a week night, though, it's about the same or even cheaper to just get the beginner pass and equipment and decide later on about the lesson.
