Panama Rocks Scenic Park w/ Optional Camping Afterward

https://sites.google.com/site/panamarocksscenicpark/home

Come explore an enchanting world of towering rocks, deep crevices and passageways, cool, cavernous dens, and small caves! The rock formations are a unique outcrop of 300 million years old quartz conglomerate sedimentary rock that extend about half a mile and reach upwards of 60 feet tall - one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The rock formations are surrounded by a one mile long hiking trail (self guided - off-trail exploring is allowed).

Cost is $7 CASH ONLY

The park opens at 10:00AM - last admittance is at 4:00PM - park grounds close at 5:00 PM

It would make sense for us to car pool together but we will figure that out when it gets closer and we see who is going. It takes approximately 2 hours to get there. Lets plan to get there at 1pm.

I'm planning on exploring the park regardless, but I haven't heard much response from people on camping. With the forecast being rain and cold for tomorrow night, we will likely just go for the afternoon.

I'll suggest meeting at Ashker's Juice Bar on Elmwood around 10. That should give us time for a snack and help coordinate travel.

I can get a tent no problem... And would rather spend the moola on a reusable item!! So where's the breakfast spot gonna be in buffalo?? Just need a address to stick in the gps.. Most defiantly a go for camping!

I am still new to the area, but am open to carpooling. Seem's like it will be a really fun trip. Does anyone know if there is fishing in the park??

Kevin - will you be camping at this park - or somewhere nearby?

      September 17, 2012

The camping area at Panama rocks is kind of small and limiting. I'm going to suggest something near either Chautauqua Lake or Findley Lake. Do people have tents available or should I look to reserve a cabin?

I'm opening this event back up and moving it to September. Please respond if you have other suggestions. I will look into some of the camping options and try to reserve a place we agree on a day.

If you leave Friday, I can't go :( But, if you leave Saturday I can!

I'll officially let it be noted that I would be down for camping there friday or saturday night. I can look into some campsites and pitch some ideas.

ah. i misread the last part. lol. will check back later when it gets closer and the details are worked out. :)

    July 23, 2012

  • Elise

This is why I did not officially "announce" the meet up yet because I was not done working out the details.

    July 23, 2012

  • Elise

And I assumed we get there at one not leave at one.

    July 23, 2012

  • Matt

I was under the impression that we would be camping there.

    July 23, 2012

  • Kevin C

Yeah, I'm thinking we should try to arrive there by 1PM. My mother is from Panama, NY... so I'm familiar with nearly everything in the area. We could also go over to Chautauqua Lake either before or after (whichever people are able).

    July 22, 2012

  • Michelle

plus if were driving 2 hrs to get there, we should probably see if theres other cool stuff to look at while we're there.

    July 22, 2012

  • Michelle

we should leave earlier. 2 hrs to get there then 2 to look around? that hike at the gorge lasted longer than that.

    July 22, 2012

  • Kevin C

Well, the date isn't set in stone yet. Feel free to suggest a day
