Intro to Chainmaille

We will be learning European 4-1, a basic chainmaille weave. The final project will be a bracelet.

What you will need:

2 pairs of pliers - chain nose and flat nose. Make sure your pliers do not have any teeth!

Jump rings - 100 each of 2 different colors

  • 18 gauge
  • 5mm
  • 4.1 aspect ratio . Bead Gallery has several colors to choose from. If you get them elsewhere, the most important thing to look for is the AR (Aspect Ratio). It must be right around 4 for the weave to lay properly.

I enjoyed this and learned something new. I made earrings for my sister for Mothers' Day from the "chainmaille" practice pieces embellishing the bottom ring with a sterling silver bead from an old rosary - she like them and put them on immediately. :)

I bought several sets of jump rings at Bead Gallery, so if you haven't had a chance to get some, don't let that stop you from coming to the meeting!!

I am so excited about this project and seeing everyone again! It has been waaay tooo long and I've missed each of you. My studio is still not set up; been in a million directions since summer 2013 and have done no jewelry at all but enjoyed some traveling. I will go to buy the above supplies this week - does WalMart carry the above does anyone know?

I haven't checked Wal-Mart, if you find some there make sure they meet the specifications.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
