The Osgood trail in Allegany State Park starts near the McIntosh Cabins. It is a loop trail of about 2.5 miles. We will add a 2 mile bushwhack.
I'm dog sitting my youngest daughter's mutt this weekend so he will be with me on this hike.
At the high point of the Osgood trail we will begin a bushwhack up the mountain to our northeast. After reaching the top of that mountain we will take a break, then head back down through the forest to the Osgood Trail.
Total of about 900 feet elevation gain and 4.5 miles.
BUT we may wander a bit because I want to explore whether or not the original Osgood trail (shown as a dotted line on the map linked below) has remnants of its existence or could be followed with the aid of a gps.
You have to be flexible and patient as we will be stopping often and wandering off the trail now and then to explore the points where the old and existing trails intersect. This is not the hike for you if you want a fast structured hike. We are starting at 10 AM, and although we might finish as early as 1 pm, we might not be done until 4 or 5 pm.
The date is subject to change dependent on the weather. Right now it looks as if Saturday will be a good day for hiking, but if the front that is supposed to come through on Friday gets delayed to Saturday, then the hike will be moved to Sunday.
A waiver of liability will be required. Please download it, fill it in on your computer, then return it to me by email. Failure to return the waiver by email will preclude you from participating in this hike. Here is the link to the release form: Release of Liability
