Thunder Rocks to Mt. Irvine in Allegany State Park

This is a hike that Gary led back on June 9. I am posting it as an alternative to his hike on the same day because I need to start and finish earlier due to my work schedule. The pace will be 2.5-3 mph (moderate to fast), 8.5 miles round trip. I hope to be done in about 4 hours including breaks, but there is some wiggle room. Rain or shine unless the weather looks really bad. We will be following a counter-clockwise route.

DOGS:  Please note that dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination, and must be leashed at all times (6 ft). They must also be cleaned up after. If you would like to bring your dog please be prepared to follow these rules.

This is always a great hike. Check the pictures from the previous hikes:

I just joined! Very excited. I love Allegany...I work a lot of Saturdays, are there hikes on Sundays? Thanks. Barbie

I switch some of my hikes to Sundays during big game season to avoid interfering with hunters. Hunting is prohibited on Sundays in ASP.

Is a release of liability needed for this hike?

Oh, so glad you are doing this because I need to start and finish earlier as well. I guess the puppet regime is still alive and well!

Glad you enjoyed. We missed you on that hike. Thanks for sharing wedding pix. I think if all of us in this group got dressed up and met some place for dinner we'd probably need name tags because we wouldn't recognize each other!

    Directions to Thunder Rocks:

If you are headed south on ASP 2, right after you pass France Brook Road on your right there will be a road on your left - that is Limestone Run Road. Take it up to the top of the hill where it intersects Thunder Rocks Road (AKA Ridge Run Road). Turn left onto Thunder Rocks Road and follow it to parking lot at the end of the road.

If you are headed north on ASP 2, then Ridge Run Road (AKA Thunder Rocks Road) will be to your RIGHT. Take it to the end where the parking lot is located.

Alternatively, you could come Down Rt. 219 on the east side of the Park and then take Limestone Run road into the park, and turn right at the intersection with Thunder Rocks road.
