The Seven Lean-tos in Allegany State Park

Group Organizer
Buffalo, NY
Post #: 186
There are 7 lean-tos in Allegany State Park. The one on the conservation trail is pretty much completely collapsed. The one near the pond/marsh at Stony Brook is very old. The three relatively new ones on the NCT/FLT (Beck Hollow, Stony Brook, and Willis Creek) are in excellent shape. All three have latrines and spring water.

In the Summit area there is a newly built (just this spring) lean-to on the Ridge Run trail. It replaces an old lean-to that once occupied the same site.

The seventh lean-to is on the Snow Snake trail. It is in better shape than the old Stony Brook lean-to, but it looks like it needs a new roof and some filler between some of the logs. These two lean-tos are for day use only.

You can view a guide to hiking to the two lean-tos in the Summit area at

You can view a G4Map of all the lean-tos at Map of All 7 ASP Lean-tos
