We're back and we're brand new!
Buffalo Learning to Code (BLC) is now a structured class.
This is a class for extreme beginners. This means that you have little to no programming experience.
This class will be running biweekly on Mondays starting Jan 21st. There will be 6 classes, with the class ending on April 1st. While it will be possible to follow along from home, you'll get the best experience by coming to the class and interacting with your fellow BLC'ers.
We will be working through the Chris Pine "Learn to Program Book" it can be found online(for free) at http://pine.fm/LearnToProgram/. I recommend reading through the introduction.
A portable computer(ie laptop) is required for this course. While we will cover how to install ruby on your machine in the first class, we recommend trying to install everything on your own following the guide on our website. (The link will be posted shortly) or in the Pine book.
Before the first class, check out http://try.github.com/. We will be doing a lot of work with git (version control) as that is how you will access the course materials.
From above, the 3 "prerequisites" for the class are:
- read through the introduction to the book
- try to install ruby on your computer
- try to work through try.github.com
Don't worry if you don't understand git or can't get your computer set up. We will review everything in the first class.
****This will be the only meetup announcement for this class. Future correspondence for the class will be discussed at the first meetup. Check back in March for the announcement for the next course!
