Hands Across Buffalo will be an effort to promote racial unity and a community commitment to better understanding race and poverty. The event, to be held May 17, 2014, will feature 7,000 people joining hands across the length of Ferry St. from the Niagara River to Bailey Avenue. Ferry was chosen because it crosses several racially and economically diverse neighborhoods and because of its rich history, including the Underground Railroad. The event will be followed by a series of discussions and programs at various locations on specific topics of race and poverty. We plan to draw national coverage of the event, showcasing Buffalo as a proudly united community
