We're Giving You Homework!

Hey, Gamers!

Yes, it's true, I'm actually giving you a homework assignment, but don't panic! There are no quadratic equations involved.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to participate in Read an RPG Book in Public Week. Your task is an incredibly simple one. At some point this week, when you are in a public place, pull out your favorite RPG book and start reading it. Whether your are on a bus, in a coffee shop, or having lunch at your favorite restaurant, anywhere in public is good. Don't be afraid to let other people see you enjoying your hobby. And if anyone shows interest, strike up a conversation with them. Be friendly. Talk with them about your hobby. If you want Extra Credit, tell them about the Buffalo Gamers Society and invite them to join us.

Are you not much of an RPG person? Are you more of a Video Gamer, or a Board Gamer? That's cool, you can still participate. The spirit of this event is to have a physical book about your hobby in a very visible place. If you've got a book about Catan, or Warhammer, or Halo, we'll count that towards your homework credit.

Here are some helpful tips!

  • Although you can select any book you want, try to avoid the less tasteful ones. Kill Puppies for Satan or Kobolds Ate My Baby probably aren't appropriate. Although we understand the humor behind these books, others may not. We want to draw people in to the hobby. Not scare them away.
  • A book with some cool cover art, or an easy-to-read title will draw more attention.
  • Bring along a few BGS cards to hand to people who show an interest, or have a pen and paper ready.
  • Bigger Books Are Better!
  • If someone who still believes that D&D is Satan Worshipping comes along, be friendly and courteous. Talk to them, to help them know the truth of the situation.

That's all. Good luck with your assignment, class. This message will self-destruct in 30 seconds.

Game on!
