For years Café Agora was a small hole in the wall authentic Turkish café on East Paces Ferry in Buckhead that locals would walk to and bar hoppers would stop in late at night before heading home. It was one of those Mom and Pop places that are getting tougher and tougher to find with all the trendy Atlanta dining. In January they closed their teeny little place and opened a bigger trendy place at 318 E Paces Ferry Road. I have loved this place for years but have been conflicted between telling everyone I know how good it is and keeping it to myself, now that they are in a bigger space and can accommodate a group I’m ready to tell everyone about this place, so let’s go!!
Some of the dishes are is excellent for sharing, the Mixed Maza Platter comes completely loaded with hummus, baba ghanoush, tabouli salad, kisir, piyaz and lots of other things from the rotating bank of daily specials and the Agora Mixed Grill Mixed is a huge plate of salad, rice, pita bread and a big pile of meat consisting of chicken and lamb sis kabob, adana kabob, kofta kabob and beef/lamb gyro meat. The pita severed with the entrees is brushed with an interesting red sauce made from olive oil, tomato paste, red pepper paste and paprika, just to make it extra special. If you don’t feel like eating family style don’t worry their gyros are amazing, the meat itself is certainly among the best that I’ve had, the meat is really tender and always seasoned perfectly.
Even though they have moved to a bigger trendier space Al, the gregarious owner will still sit and chat with you, give you a sample of rice pudding and most likely feed you baklava with a plastic fork before you leave.
I’ve never had a bad meal here and in fact, I’ve never had a bad dish here. Whether you're a meatatarian or a vegetarian, a lamb fan or a chicken lover, you cannot go wrong. I will split the tables between ordering individually and ordering family style; just let me know which you prefer when you arrive. Café Agora has a full bar and as always you will pay for your own drinks. Without alcohol you can expect to spend about $15 for dinner.
And of course the 24 hour cancellation and no show policy is in effect for this event.
