Join with others to create a revolutionary vision for a new egalitarian society. Help to develop a strategy to realize and implement this vision. Identify the challenges we face and how they can be overcome.
We start with the premise that capitalism and its model of profit and plunder are inherently at odds with the health and well-being of the people and must be overturned. So the question is how we can accomplish this and what system we will put in its place.
This is a forum for cultivating and compiling ideas for a utopian vision and then for developing a coordinated strategy for its implementation.
We start with the bedrock values of liberty, justice, human rights, equality, democracy, community, co-operation, sustainability, and nonviolence.
This group features presenters, guest speakers, and informal discussion and dialogue. Multiple points of view are welcome in a congenial and respectful environment.
Building Utopia is not about withdrawing from society in our own private enclave of the like-minded. It's not about carving out a sanctuary for the enlightened while the rest of the world goes up in flames for its ignorance, fear, division, greed, and war. It's about global transformation. It's about outreach, engagement, and living in relationship. It's about the hard task of opening our eyes to the moral bankruptcy of patriarchy, of coming to grips with our own part in it, of educating each other without accusation or judgment, of forging solidarity with our neighbors in community, and of together building a coalition toward the aim of a classless egalitarian world society for the equitable and sustainable sharing of labor and natural resources.
Utopia is not the mythical heaven. It is not Shangri-la. It does not purport to be a society of infinite abundance inhabited by angels. Utopians recognize that we all must operate within the limits of the Earth's resources and that humans will always be fallible and have shortcomings and pathologies.
The focus of utopia is not on making an ideal citizen but rather on making an ideal society.
We seek to create a world of free of exploitation, subjugation, war, and plunder. We seek to create liberty, justice, human rights, equality, community, democracy, co-operation, sustainability, and peace for all people.
When we succeed, the society of our creation will be worthy of the name, utopia.
