Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations @Girard College

Hey everyone! I am a Compliance Investigator with the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations and we are having a public session as a result of the recent Philadelphia Magazine article 'Being White in Philadelphia', feel free to attend. Maybe we could do drinks or something afterwards. Don't worry, I won't be on the clock, I don't think. Just thought it would be interesting for the group to attend.

Here is the info from the flier:
Residents and business owners in Fairmount/Brewerytown:

Philadelphia Magazine painted one picture of intergroup relations in your community.
We want to hear directly from you about intergroup relations in your diverse and changing neighborhood.

The meeting will be a listening session to hear your experiences and recommendations for improving relations between people of different backgrounds – such as race, class/income, religion, national origin, age, gender, disability and sexual orientation.

This is the first in a series of public meetings the PCHR will hold in neighborhoods experiencing changes in their residents and resources.

Will there be a designated area to meet prior to the start of the session?

I'll also be there early since I'm going right after work.

I just updated but at this time there is no designated area. I'm going to try and section an area off though.

Turns out I will have to do some greeting and signing folks in at the event tomorrow. So I may be one of the first people you see. But I won't be immediately available to sit with the group. I'm going to try and section off a Buppies area but I may not be able to. Whomp whomp. Hope you all still come out. And if no one wants to grab anything afterwards I'd like to remind you all there is a happy hour on Friday at Loews!

Hello all! I'm excited to have you come to this event. Does anyone have suggestions for a place to get drinks afterwards?

I may be late getting there. Keep me informed as to where you go for drinks.

The article should really be titled: "The untold stories of gentrification" or the division of the "Haves & Have Nots." It does nothing to enlighten us about race relations...other than perpetuate the same old stereotypes that being Black = being a criminal. What a waste of time...

Yeah, when I read it I knew it was going to be a hot mess. I'm thinking this meeting will be nice and interesting just by the responses we are getting in our office. LOTS of people agree with the article. Mainly people who live right in Center City of the Burbs.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
