It was a good discussion. I'll admit it is difficult to rate a book that is just the beginning of a trilogy as most of the time the ending is what leaves the biggest impression. I look forward to the next meeting.

Hi, I had read this book but I have to work that night. BTW, most Americans don't know Japanese cruelty during WWII on other Asian countries was unspeakable. As a Korean American, I guess I am either more sensitive or more informed about that issue. Even today, Japan refuses to apologize or even acknowledge it. Even Germany still pays Holocaust victims' descendants. I shudder at the hypothetical consequences if we Americans did not stop the Axis leaders of World War II, especially Japan. I regret the author's twisted portrayal of Chinese cruelty against Japanese soldiers, who were the invaders, to begin with, BTW.

Sung, it would have been great to meet you. I appreciate the extra insight. My brother is stationed for the Air Force in Tokyo right now, so I have become very interested in different aspects and dynamics of that region. Maybe you can make it for Book 2?
