North Brooklyn Breakfast Club April Meetup

  • April 29, 2010 · 9:30 AM

This is the fourth of our monthly breakfasts, which take place the last Friday [NOTE: We'll have our breakfast on THURSDAY this month] of every month at 9:30am at Enid's in Greenpoint/Williamsburg. Due to increasing interest in this group (thanks, guys!), we're giving preference to locals who live and/or work in the neighborhood. The NBBC Happy Hour on 4/15 is open to everyone! The $7 breakfast buffet Enid's is offering - with biscuits, gravy, fruit salad, juice, coffee, and tea - is the price of admission. All proceeds go to our hosts to cover food costs! The agenda: Quick introductions over breakfast Three demos: ste.ps, howaboutwe.com, marketpublique.com Casual networking session, with free Wi-Fi on offer for those who want to stick around and work in a community environment following our breakfast

the last meeting to qualify for the powerup competition was earlier this week but you can still use the resources at the brooklyn business library. yes, most people are interested in brick and mortar businesses but the organizers also encourage non-profit and online ventures. there are also small business competitions in other burroughs, manhattan and queens, that you may want to checkout.

I loved today's presentations (though I may be a bit biased since I selected the companies...) and thought there was a great mix of creativity and people. Thanks everyone for coming and to ste.ps, marketpublique.com, and howaboutwe.com!

great reminder! plus they have the annual business plan grant competition: http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/business/powerup/ they seem to favor more brick & mortal operations (Greenlight Bookstore in Ft. Greene was a winner), but they do offer many resources to businesses at all phases.

just an fyi. . .brooklyn public library has a great array of resources for those looking to start their own business. from creating a business plan to understanding the financial aspects of your new startup, these extensive resources should be helpful. please see brooklyn business library - business guide (http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/business/smallbusiness/) and articles & databases (http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/eresources/#business).

    Pros:
    -3 very interesting presentations
-Cool info about local tech businesses
    -Met some cool people Cons:
-Meeting organization was not great for networking. Doing one less presentation and giving attendees a 15-second intro might have made it better. But if you are not outgoing, you probably wouldn't meet too many people.
-Spread seemed meager for $7 (beverages and scones)
-Early (I'm not a morning person)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
