WORKSHOP: High Fashion catalog Studio Lighting 104a (morning session)

“This will be a great intro to intermediate class to beautiful studio lighting for high fashion catalog style photos.”

It is time for our first "High Fashion Catalog" style photo workshop Sunday, January 19th.

We have chosen a fabulous fashion model, Danielle:

We are lucky to have access to some amazing haute-couture clothes by a famous local haute-couture designer, Colleen Quen! This collection of clothes is called the 5 element series, and was previously exhibited in a museum. Take a look:

We will also have a talented hair and makeup artist on set to make our images truly fashionable. These will definitely be some great shots to add to anyone's portfolios. I like to keep the classes small (maximum 8 photographers), so we are holding a morning and afternoon session  from 10am-2pm and 3pm-7pm, so that more people can be accommodated. Spaces are limited, so sign up soon.

This class will be a great opportunity to learn how to shoot beautiful commercial catalog style fashion photos. We will not only learn some great studio lighting tips, but we will dive into the philosophy of "beauty" itself.  We will start the class with a brief introduction, portfolio review, and educational lecture. After a Q&A and brief break, we will have lots of fun shooting our model in some amazing dresses with our Profoto studio lighting setup.  I want to make it clear that this will be a learning experience and not just a free-for-all shootout like many other "workshops". I am here to teach about photography, and I want everyone who attends to leave feeling like they have learned something new, and are excited to try to experiment more on their own. I urge you to bring in 5 of your best images on CD or USB key, and we will give you a short portfolio review and some personal advice on what each person needs to work on. If you have attended our classes in the past, please bring in examples of what you shot in those classes.

It will stay a small class of no more than 8 students so sign up soon before the classes fill up.

The two sessions will be held at the Lighthouse Studio in Berkeley:

1310 9th st , Berkeley, CA

The class will be held on Jan 19th. 10am-2pm, for the first session, and 3-7pm for the second session. Initial reduced price will be $95 for one session, prior to selecting the model, then the price will increase to $115. Also, I can offer a $10 discount for referrals if you bring a friend.

I hope you can join us for one of the classes. Sign up soon before spaces are filled up.

Thanks,

Leon Saperstein

Hi. Is a Model release included for the images we shoot in the class?

    January 18, 2014

    • Leon

Yes, everyone will get a standard non-commercial model release, giving the students the rights to any personal usage. Commercial model releases are available directly from the model after class or by email if ever needed.

What lenses/gear would you suggest? Trying to carry less and keep the bag light :).

    January 14, 2014

    • Leon

The only required gear is a DSLR camera with a fixed or zoom lens between 35-85mm focal length. A Pocket Wizard remote is useful also, but not required since we have them you can borrow.

Hi Leon. How many outfits or looks will this workshop include?

    January 8, 2014

    • Leon

We will have time to shoot at least three outfits each class. If you want to shoot more outfits you can take both classes, or ask to schedule a 30 or 60 minute private shoot with our model after the class. This way you can also experiment more with all my lighting equipment.

Hi Leon, you mention "this Sunday" which is the 12th, not the 19th, are we sure about the date?

    January 8, 2014

    • Leon

Sorry for the confusion, the class is definitely on Sunday January 19th. Hope you can make it.
