Camdug is a Cambridge Based community developer group who's primary goal is to connect great developers, and let great learning and sharing happen...and get out the way. Mostly pub socials, hack days, coding DoJo's, and unconference events.
We're hoping that Cambridge will be the base from which developers from Europe can easily visit at low cost and low stress (easy access to European cities via Stansted), and check out the UK scene, with easy access to great co-working space in Cambridge with fast trains to London. If you're a techie from Europe, come visit Cambridge for a bit, use Cambridge as your base and get to London tech meetings from Cambridge sometimes quicker than you would if staying in many parts of London! ...or so we've been told ;-D
Co-working city share-swap:
Alan is currently connecting one by one with dev community group organisers across europe, with established connections in Paris and Amsterdam, (working on more every day) exploring and setting up city co-working swap programs, where dev's offer a bed (or mattress on the floor) for a week to a visiting dev, as well as a daily lift to and from the local co-working space, in exchange for the same in their home city.
To start with, for security reasons the group organisers will be organising events on their respective meetup groups for devs to visit each other's city travelling in a minimum of two people, and only regulars that the group organisers can vouch for will be allowed to rsvp. (i.e. we're not offering free couchsurfing to strangers, this is about connecting and sharing and learning between established developer community groups.)
Basically we're about connecting folk using some outrageously different ideas, ranging from unconference held at ski resorts, bed share ideas being currently planned, to simple dev events in Cambridge, using Cambridge as a base that developers from Berlin, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Paris etc can get to easily and cheaply via Stansted airport. There's a quick train direct to Cambridge from Stansted, only 20 minutes, and often we can arrange to pick up folk from the airport.
We're also about... Coding Dojos, code retreats, regular socials, beer, BBQs, conferences, share business leads, unconference hack days, open coding, special events focusing on software craftmanship, agile, Kanban, TDD, BDD ... checkout the past meetups to see what we get up to ;-D
Unconferences and developer events target development issues and themes that are as cross platform as possible, to connect dev folk with as diverse a background as possible, while dealing with and learing about serious development issues and best practices.
What if you're looking to hire a developer? If you're not a developer or designer or techie startup entrepreneur, then you can only join the group and attend socials bybecoming a sponsor, which requires paying 4 beer and pizza at any of the socials that you attend. If you work for a recruitment agency then unfortunatelyyou cannot join as a member, and can only become a sponsor for an event.
