Change Data Capture

Speaker: Vern Jewett, SQL database administrator and developer Improving Enterprises

Summary: Microsoft introduced Change Data Capture with SQL 2008.  Anyone who, like me, wrote triggers to capture historical data prior to that, knows how much effort it saves.  But if a table being tracked by CDC has column modifications applied, the data capture does not track the new columns.  I’ll present a simple but effective technique utilizing views, to preserve all your history from CDC, through all the changes.

About Vern: Vern Jewett, of Improving Enterprises, is a SQL database administrator and developer.  He has been in software development for over 20 years, with certifications in Microsoft SQL Server, Security+, .NET, Java, and PowerBuilder.  He is currently working at the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, as a Data Mart designer and developer.
