Today (Sunday) we will be discussing and deciding some important things about our rapidly expanding group. Everyone joins this group for different reasons be it social, charity, or simply intelligent conversation. Tomorrow, Sunday, we will be sorting out what we want the focus and direction of our group to be. In just a few short months we've grown to almost 60 members and have hosted movie nights, roller derby, comedy nights, bi-weekly discussions, and even been featured on the front page of the caller times website and received attention for our volunteer efforts. I wish I was here longer to see how thriving this community will be in another few months when the TAMUCC students get back and their new freethought group starts getting excited too.
We would like everyone to be there today to vote on issues like who is going to help keep this herd of cats moving.
If nothing else, B&J's is a great venue for pizza and a wide selection of imports. If you haven't come to an event yet, and especially for our regulars, this is one you should make it out to! We will begin official discussion at 5:45, try to show up beforehand to get settled!
Atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, humanists, non-religious, lost tourists, and the open-minded and supportive are all welcome to join us! We, like anyone, can benefit from a supportive community. It is often claimed that atheists are rare when in fact nearly 20% of our nation's population do not believe in a higher power. Still, atheists can on occasion feel isolated when the religious community is so organized and outspoken on issues. We deserve a voice. Building and participating in a community is the first step in giving us that voice. On a plus side, the conversation is great! Aside from our traditional social Sunday meetups we also organize volunteer events - please join us and if you have an idea for something fun to do please make a suggestion!
