Cajon Making Workshop

  • Feb 15, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Our very own Stu Dicker is hosting a cajon-making workshop at his house on Saturday, February 15.

The cajon is a box drum originally from Peru. Extremely versatile, it can sounds great with ukulele. We've used it for many of our performances. Watch Jake and his cajon-playing friend:

Each person will make his/her own cajon! All materials will be provided.  The cost is $40 and will need to be prepaid in order for us to buy the materials. You can bring payment to our next meet up on February 1, or mail it to Chinese Community Church, Attn: Ted Fong, 5600 Gilgunn Way, Sacramento, CA 95822. Make checks payable to Chinese Community Church. If you want to use your own wood, talk to Ted or Stu (different woods produce different sounds) so we can make arrangements. Fee will be reduced.

We'll also have a play along for those who are not making cajons. The morning promises to be a lot of fun and fellowship for all!

Amazing. Just amazing. 20 + people crowded into the wood shop, gluing and nailing, sanding and driving screws, routers buzzing, , music playing, lots of food. 16 cajons in one morning. No disasters. Lots of happy people.

Excellent class!!! Thank you Stu for all the prep work and instructions and for opening your workshop to us. You put in so much time before we arrived to help us make a beautiful cajon. My family were impressed and my grandson immediately began to play it. Thanks Ted for coordinating with Stu.

Hi my fellow ukesters. My husband just had knee replacement surgery and needs me to help him at home for a bit. Enjoy making those cajons, I know that Stuard is a great wood worker craftsman.
