ran for governor in South Carolina. Silverman is the founder of the
Secular Coalition for America (SCA) and author of
"Candidate without a Prayer: An Autobiography of a Jewish Atheist in
the Bible Belt"

Silverman turned from apathetic to activist atheist when he discovered
that his South Carolina Constitution prohibited anyone who "denied the
existence of the Supreme Being" from running for public office. So he
ran for governor. His story is powerful and humorous.
Silverman's book is published by the Humanist Press, at
