CFI–DC Drinking Skeptically Baltimore Message Board › The passing of Brian Isbell

The passing of Brian Isbell

Bruce P.
It is with great regret that we pass on the news of one of our DS-ers, Brian Isbell.

Brian passed away Saturday night from colon cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital with his wife Uliana, friends and family at his side.

With the growth of our group in the last year, I understand that many of you will not have met Brian as conflicts with his dancing and his commitments to his wife kept him away from us for some time.  Brian was just a genuinely nice person with an easy manner and warm smile.  He very much enjoyed the skeptical community and, over the last few years, was present at a number of gatherings including TAM, NECSS and the JREF trip to the Galapagos.

Having only learned of Brian's illness on Friday, it reminds me how easy it is to allow people to 'slip through the cracks'.  Through social media we can manage more relationships than ever before, but it doesn't mean people don't get lost.  While it shouldn't be a source for guilt, it is a practical matter to reflect on.  When you haven't seen someone in a bit, toss them quick note to let them know you're thinking of them.

If you haven't been around in a while, send us a note we'd love to hear from you or better yet come on by!
