Back to Book Group in 2014

We've taken a break from book group for a few months. Now several of us are interested in restarting. Our first book, in January, will be http://www.amazon.com/Alone-Together-Expect-Technology-Other/dp/0465031463/ref=tmm_pap_title_0
It's timely for exploring our relationship with the digital age.
We want to develop a list of books for the next several months ahead and will discuss this at the January book group meeting so bring your suggestions. A location will be announced when we have an idea how many people are likely to attend. Suggestions for location are also welcome. Hope you can start reading and be part of a lively discussion!

I've sent an email with the address to all those who've said they'll attend. If you didn't get an email, or if you just changed your mind and will be speed-reading this week, send me an email and I'll reply with address and directions.

It's early to do this but I would like to recommend a book for the next session after this: "The Shallows" by Nicholas Carr. It describes neuroplasticity and the effects of short and long term memory on deep reading and learning vs. quick access to media like the Net and how that effects our brain functions. Outstanding book!!

Wow, Bob--that book dovetails nicely with what we will be discussing on 1/23. Sounds great!

Bob, that book sounds like a winner.

Joan and Dennis have graciously agreed to host this meeting. The address will be sent to all those who RSVP 'Yes' at least two days prior to the meeting date.

I think it would be really fun to see this movie before book group given the topic of the book http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/18/movies/her-directed-by-spike-jonze.html?src=dayp

Dennis and I will attend. We can hold it at our place if needed. Thanks, Betty, Deborah, and Laurie for getting this going again!
