July Book Discussion

Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman  512 pages

Kahneman, a psychologist, won the Nobel prize in Economics in 2002. His work is in behavioral psychology and, specifically, decision making. In this 2008 book he discusses how people make decisions.

Read a New York Times review here: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/27/books/review/thinking-fast-and-slow-by-daniel-kahneman-book-review.html

As you read, think about our discussion:

What new knowledge might change how you make decisions in the future?

Will knowing more about decision making change how you respond to others?

Which ideas presented will you try to incorporate into your thinking and life?

How could these ideas be used for good or for ill by marketers or educators?

This is an entertaining as well as thought-provoking book. I think it will be a fun discussion. And, since the book was released in 2008, its available in hardcover, paperback, and audio-books, so it may be less expensive than a new release. Enjoy, and we'll see you there!

This book is one of my all time favorites! Full of information and shocking insights. Unfortunately, it is so full, I find it to be slow reading. Because I recommend this book so highly, I would suggest that to gain more readers and more discussion that we break the book up into sections for each book meeting. I recommend just talking about Parts 1 & II first and Parts III-V later.

As a newbie, let me say I LOVE the idea of book discussions , esp ones like this ! Unfortunately I'm to work that week so can't make it. Enjoy ..! I'm a practicing musician and do my practicing every morning 8 to 12:30/1. So the usual 11am mtg groups are a challenge for me also. I will be keeping my eye on the site, for a meeting I can come to.... can't wait!! Beast to all. Ati
