Hi everyone, just a reminder, we'll meet tonight at BCC to watch an episode of Penn and Teller's Bullsh*t and chat a bit afterwards. We'll have sodas and munchies. Bring a friend!
Here's the details: The Center for Inquiry Community of Fort Lauderdale invites you to a showing of Penn & Teller's "Bullshit!" Penn & Teller's Bullshit! is an Emmy-nominated documentary television series that has been on the air since 2003 on the premium cable channel Showtime. It is hosted by professional magicians/comedians Penn & Teller. Many episodes aim to debunk what the hosts see as pseudoscientific ideas, supernatural beliefs, popular fads and misconceptions, and often from a libertarian point of view, the political philosophy espoused by both Penn and Teller. The show criticizes proponents of what they perceive as nonsense and dishonesty—bullshit—often citing ulterior political or financial motives. The stated aim of the show is to apply critical thinking to misconceptions, and as is indicated by the show's title, the program adheres to Penn & Teller's characteristically blunt, aggressive presentation. The CFI Community of Fort Lauderdale is a group of rationalists, atheists, skeptics, and humanists which sponsor local events, activism, lectures and educational programs. The Community draws upon volunteers and Center for Inquiry Friends and supporters who are enthusiastic about our agenda and wish to take part in our movement. The Fort Lauderdale Community offers an opportunity to put your principles into practice by joining other rationalists to work for positive change in society. In addition, the Fort Lauderdale Community sponsors social events for freethinkers as well as intellectual programming, and assists with campus outreach. The CFI Comunity of Fort Lauderdale provides an ethical alternative to religious and paranormal worldviews. In this time of rising religiosity, anti-intellectualism and political turmoil on ethical issues, it is critical that rationalists and freethinkers join together to protect civil liberties, defend reason, and work toward increasing scientific literacy.
