Do you want to track improvement in your fitness level and speed? As well as being one of Orlando's most scenic trails with smooth pavement, this is a great trail to monitor your progress and to help motivate your level of intensity.
I began doing this routine earlier this year to help monitor my fitness and to track improvement in my average speed. Whether you are on blades or a bike, all you need is a watch, computer or other tracking device to monitor your 60 minute run. Starting from the split to the trail which is a short roll from the parking lot, we head West bound towards Winter Springs. If you wish to traverse the entire section of this trail, you will cross the trail bridge over SR-434 and continue on another 3 miles to the trail end at the Layer Elementary School. We head back from this point to the other end of the trail in Oviedo which will give us approximately 12.2 miles. From here, it's either back to the parking lot where, if you are averaging 14mph, you'll be close when you hit 60mins. If you are doing better than 14mph, you can skip the turn-off to the parking lot and continue down the trail to see how far you can get past the turn off when you hit the 60minute mark.
Each time you do this run you can track how you well you do from week to week. It's great to see improvement but it's up to you how hard you push yourself. Once the 60mins have elapsed, we can regroup and take a casual roll or decide how much further the group wants to go. This trail extends further in both direction but would involve some street rolling to make the connections to the trail links.
Please note that depending on the numbers, this group may break apart during the 60 min challenge, but as it's a out and back circuit, there are opportunities to re group along the trail. We will plan to roll out at 4:45pm sharp so if you are late, just follow the route described to track us down. If you'd like to see an example of this run follow my link to Garmin Connect for the map and stats: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/71743436
PS. If you are new to skating or this meetup group and would like some training tips, let me know and I will plan to arrive about 20mins early for a meet and greet.
See you out there!
