Competing in a Web 3.0 world with yesterday's tools? IT backbone designs have radical opportunity for contribution to your company's bottom line, but acceptance -- even understanding -- of the new tools has been slow. IT must also DELIVER, with reliability, cost effectiveness, and security -- hard issues for experiimentalists. Universal Communications for business -- Voice Integrated with Video Integrated with Data -- are imperative for global companies. Where do such tools as Skype Video fit with Google Wave" How do you get Cisco Telepresence capability combined with social networking values, for reasonable cost? Where do the Virtual Worlds fit in the IT director's domain? Chuck House has some surprising answers based on Stanford research "on the ground" in key global companies.
Bio:
Chuck House, Executive Director of MediaX at Stanford University, has many innovative credits. Recipient of Dave Packard's Medal of Defiance, the Smithsonian's Wizards of Computing award, an ACM and IEEE Fellow, and one of CNN's Top 25 products of the last 25 years, House most recently led Intel's Research Collaboratory. He has led aaward-winning design teams at Dialogic, Veritas, Informix, and Hewlett-Packard over many years. His new book, The HP Phenomenon: Innovation and Buisness Transformation, describes a company that changed its leadership products and services six times in six decades, providing renewal momentum unparalleled in American business history.

Who attended?

  • 10 attendees
    •  Great free following discussion about the progress of technology. The speaker was a wealth and was willing to take audience questions. BTW, the food was excellent. Excellent pirioski with meet and potato with sour cream were very good.
    •  Fascinating presentation about the historical sweep of trends to integrate video, voice, and data. All nine of us sat around one table for an informal, illuminating session. A refreshing treat to cap a busy day.
