Three Lakes Trail Day Hike

The Three Lakes Trail is a little over 10 miles long and is located in Morgan Monroe State Forest. The Terrain is considered moderate, although there are some ravines that will increase your heart rate. Most, but not all of the trail is shaded, but bring plenty of water.

Bring a pack with a lunch, a camera, and hiking poles if you have them .  Informal social afterwards if anyone is interested.

We will begin at 9:00 AM leaving from the Bryant's Creek Lake Shelter. We will be stopping to eat lunch so be sure to pack one.

The trailhead is located just inside the forest entrance off of old 37 between Martinsville and Bloomington..

Due to the likelihood of inclement/dangerous weather, this hike has been canceled for June 1st and will be rescheduled.

Looks like tomorrow is going to be a wet one, so remember to bring trekking poles if you have them. This is one of my favorite trails with a little bit of everything. Creeks may be higher and inclines slippery, so even one pole is great to have for these conditions. I will have Deep Woods OFF to share if anyone wants to use it for warding off ticks. I'll be covering my hair with a bandana too. Worked great last time- Not one tick! Weather will be a bit cooler, so that's good. Looking forward to a great hike! See you in the morning!

Gary, sorry I am going to have to cancel. I had foot surgery and thought it would be better by now than it is. I don't think 10 miles would be good for it yet. Next time! Thanks for organizing!

For those who fear ticks: Last Saturday I sprayed myself all over with Off Deep Woods Dry spray, it cost under $5 at Walmart, and didn't have one tick. A few people had a few ticks, but I don't think they used any insect repellent.

Hiked this trail yesterday. Trail in great condition but lots of ticks.... Also came across family of water moccasins at one point - exciting!

There were lots of tics on this hike recently. Insect repellent might be a good idea. We'll have a water spigot about 1/3 of the way into the hike....so you can pack water accordingly. The pace will probably actually be something less than 3 mph. Please arrive by 9:00 so we can get everyone signed in and be on the trail by shortly after 9:00. Post a comment if you're on the way but running late.

The pace will be approximately 3 mph. Most of the first half of the trail that we pre-hiked is pretty flat. We should be able to make good time, but this is a very scenic trip. I anticipate there will be a couple stops for pix, or to just take it all in.
Starting from this location will be different than where we started for the pre-hike....and we only did half of the trail from there. By the time we get together on the 1st, I'll know better where we'll stop for lunch/snack.
There is plenty of parking at the shelter.

What will the pace be on this hike?

I take that is a big parking lot at the shelter?
