CMG Australia, Dec 4th 2013 - Inaugural Meeting & Kickoff

  • Dec 4, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • CPT's Office in the city

Folks,

CPT has offered the use of their conference room for purposes of our meeting. Light refreshments will be provided.

Please reach me on[masked] if you have trouble finding the place. We will be trialling the use of an un-conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference) format. In short this means that speakers volunteer topics they can speak on and participants choose what they want to hear.

Obviously, we will also want to use the first meeting as an opportunity to meet & greet and get to know each other well.
We will also lay down the framework for CMG Australia, it's vision, it's mission and other initiatives we have in mind. Each of you will be called upon to provide input & feedback which will be used to refine the organization's Vision & Mission statement including initiatives we would like to focus on for FY 2014.

We intend for CMG to be a platform for professionals, vendors, educational and research organizations with interests in Systems Performance. We've got an exciting future ahead and lots of great challenges to work on. Let's work together to ensure we stay relevant in an evolving marketplace.

Yesterday's meeting was great, with a strong turnout of people who were passionate about performance. There was some interesting discussion about current problems in the industry, and on ways we can help project managers better understand performance testing.

Thanks to Trevor for being an excellent organiser, and thanks to Marty and CPT Global for being an excellent host.

Personally, i think it was a great start to CMG Australia. However we've got our work cut out for us. The regular catch-ups are great but we also need to focus on the more important issues to ensure that we working on the initiatives that translate our vision and mission into real world goals and objectives.

I look forward to working with each of you. Please take the time to send us your thoughts, inputs and recommendations on what we could better including areas of improvement from a meeting standpoint.

Let's keep in touch over the mailing list until then.

    Cheers,
    Trevor

    Folks,

Those who turn-up after 1800 would need to call either Marty[masked]) or me [masked]) to get access to the building. The address for CPT's offices is - Level 1, 4 Riverside Quay, Southbank, Melbourne.

Request all of you to turn up by 1745. That way you won't need assistance to get into the building. One of us will be at the entrance of the building until 1750 and will escort you upstairs.

However, if you land up after 1800 or need any assistance, please reach Marty or me on our phone and we'll be happy to assist.

    Cheers,
    Trevor

    Folks,

We've got our first meeting coming up on the 4th of Dec. I look forward to catching up with each of you in person. Our first meeting is being hosted at CPT's premises and it would be great to meet you all in person. We also understand that you guys are pretty busy and appreciate you taking the time out to attend in person. We envisage CMG as a platform that brings together professionals/researchers/academics/students with interests in Systems Performance with the objective of sharing, learning, collaborating and creating a more innovative/creative industry locally here in Australia.

If you have any concerns or queries about the upcoming session please reach out to me over email at trevor at practical performance analyst dot com.

    Cheers,
    Trevor

Folks, We will be trialling out the un-conference format as suggested by Stuart. Am keen to take a poll on the topics you guys are keen to hear at the upcoming meeting. Topics can be technical or non-technical but need to be focused around SPE i.e. Performance Requirements Gathering, Performance Modelling, Capacity Planning, Performance Testing, Application Diagnostics, Performance Monitoring, Capacity Management, etc.

It's time for you to voice you opinion on the topics you would like to hear.

    Cheers,
    Trevor

    Folks,

CMG Australia is looking for a place to hold it's monthly meetings. We invite sponsor organizations who could provide access to a conference room for 15-20 people with a projector for a duration of a couple of hours. The meetings would last a couple of hours and focus on topics related to Systems Performance Engineering. Sponsor organizations could also provide optional drinks/nibbles. No monetary sponsorship is required for any of these sessions.

    Cheers,
    Trevor

Folks, I've added a Vision and Mission statement for CMG Australia. Please take a look and post your comments, inputs and thoughts. Let's use the first meeting as an opportunity to go over some of this. - http://www.cmgaus.org/our-vision-mission/

I think that a good format for the first CMG meetup would be in the style of an un-conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference) like CITCON (http://citconf.com/openspace.php).

At the start of the meetup, we can all propose some topics, select a few that the group most wants to talk about, then the person who proposed each topic can lead/facilitate the discussion. This way we ensure that we cover topics the group is interested in, and don't have to organise speakers/slidedecks for every meetup.

    What does everyone think?

I like the idea Stuart and second the approach. However, i would like to conclude the first session with a short presentation on CMG Australia, the various future initiatives, our vision and how each of our members can help us bring that vision to life.

Folks, you would have noticed the change in URL. I've shortened the URL and it's now meetup.com/CMG-Australia/. Have also updated the cmgaus.org page.
