Rancho Canada del Oro Plant Walk

If you eat too much for Thanksgiving (or just want an excuse to do so), there will be a hike just for you. You can work off some of those excess calories by going on a hike November 26, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Chapter member David Chapman is also a docent for the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority, which has been buying land to set it aside as open space preserves for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. On November 26 at 10 A.M. he will be leading a hike at one of their newest preserves, Rancho Canada del Oro. This is on Casa Loma Road, off McKean Road south of Calero Reservoir. The hike will be about four miles and will take about four hours (an easy pace). There is about 400 feet of hill-climbing along the way but there will be rest stops. Wear layers; it can be chilly in the canyon in the morning. Bring water and a snack; there will be a break at a picnic table mid-hike. Rain cancels. It is flat at first, then a steady[masked] ft climb, then a steady descent. I would rate it as moderate, but not easy. Plant walks are usually slow with frequent stops to examine plants.

Arvind, what's the elevation? Is the hike moderate or strenuous?

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
