NY SAFE ACT

Good morning everyone,
Rob Ocker and I met with Senator Valesky yesterday to discuss the NY SAFE ACT with the intent on providing him with our viewpoint on how this law is causing distress for law abiding citizens while the criminals could care less. Senator Valesky was very cordial and seemed genuinely interested in receiving this information.

The legislature is going to have to amend the bill for law enforcement anyway and I am hopeful that this will produce additional changes to relieve the undue pressure on legal gun owners. We also made a personal appeal that once he understands the ramifications of this law, that he should assist in also educating his peers in Albany to reconsider the infringements they have placed on our Second Amendment rights. They have caused an unnecessary battle within this state that is wasting our precious time and resources.

This may be shared freely and could be useful if you schedule a meeting with your NYS legislators', local official, and even your Sheriff or local police department.

While some say this may be a waste of time, I feel differently because I was able to confirm a fatal flaw in the legislative process that I was able to debate with the Senator. It seems that they are under the impression that their job is to make laws and let the courts determine the constitutionality. Legislators need to be reminded that they took an oath to "support the constitution of the United States". Therefore it is their obligation to consider these matters before writing and passing a law.
