Bring Your "Most Beloved" Dish

  • April 6, 2013 · 5:00 PM
  • Tricia's House

Let's get together to greet, meet and...indulge. Bring your favorite, most decadent, hard to resist dish and make it vegan!

What to bring:

--A dish to share, (6-8 servings) free from any animal ingredients.

--A note card to share and swap your recipe.

Address will be emailed out to those attending 2 days before the event.

Below are ideas and tips for converting non-vegan dishes to vegan:

*Cooked beans can be added in place of poultry chunks in soups. *Sliced fake meats can be substituted in equal amounts for meat. *Sliced vegan soy cheese can be exchanged for airy cheese, and soy yogurt and soy cream cheese function the same as their dairy counterparts.                                                                           *Soy, hemp, almond, or rice milk can be used to replace dairy milk,

Here are some vegan ingredients that you might try to exchange in baking recipes:

*for refined sugar or honey: Succanat (a dry vegan sweetener), turbinado sugar, maple syrup, orange or apple juice concentrate, fruit purées, applesauce

*for eggs: tofu, applesauce, puréed or mashed bananas, Egg Replacer (a dry product made by Ener-G Foods).

*for milk: soy, rice or grain milks, puréed tofu, fruit juices

*for butter or lard: vegan margarine, vegetable oil, fruit purées, applesauce, puréed tofu, nut butters

Let us know if you have questions or need some ideas for dishes to bring. Yay! See you there!

Ok, Lisa started this, so I have to give her credit, but starting a blog here called:

"YOU KNOW YOU'RE AT A VEGAN POTLUCK WHEN..."
-...Troy is carrying on a riveting conversation in the kitchen about somatic cell count.
-...Jason shows up on day 5 of his 30 day green smoothie fast carrying his meal in a thermos.
-...Jackie is making testimonial differences between residential and industrialized composting.

Should be fun! We noticed a while ago to watch out with the meat substitutes. Many, like Morningstar products, while offering up veggie=burgers, etc. can actually contain milk/egg products. Frustrating for sure! If it doesn't at least say Vegan on the box the US really should adopt the same symbology like in Europe with special symbol for vegetarian and for vegan...

I may be able to make this, I may have to bum a ride off of someone willing to give me one. But I will also have to call or cancel depending on my work schedule. Sadly I can't make plans in advance because my schedule is never the same, always different times and always different days off, etc. If I do get to go I will make my Vegan Mac 'n Cheese. It's become a staple of what I bring to potlucks. I have brought this Mac 'n Cheese to omnivore dinner parties and they like it too, they are always asking how I made it and everything. Look at this I'm making everyone way to excited about Mac 'n Cheese that might suck.
