D&D 3.5 Group 1 every other Sunday 12-6 PM

Note: We now have plenty of players after our 1/5/14 game so this group is generally closed to any new players. We have no room for more new players unless otherwise specified. However, groups typically have some turnover, so feel free to make a character as described below and post (not rsvp) to see if there's room. This should leave room for our regulars to rsvp first.

We've just finished one adventure and will be starting another probably this 1/19 game or the next one.

We've split our huge group into 5 groups, each adventuring in various campaigns. This is Group 1 on alternating Sundays, and we're continuing our adventures in the world of Aereth, home of the Dungeon Crawl Classics. As of Dec. 2013, our characters are all 5th-6th level, so start at 4th level, see below.

How to join the game: At least catch me at the game (before the game if possible), but ideally, if you can set up your character before the game, that would help. Feel free to discuss among the other players (e.g. via the discussions on this meetup group) to see who's playing what kind of character if that helps you decide what you want to play, and whether you prefer to roll up your own or if you might like me to roll up some optional sample characters to choose from. We now have a good variety of characters covering most of the standard classes, but players come and go, and sometimes even the regulars can't always make it to the game. So new players might check to see what we need, but of course let us know what you like to play. We're also open to other classes (be sure and bring the book they're in). We do have a healer, Angel, an elf Bard/Cleric who plays a harp, she's always there. We also have a gnome Ranger/Druid and an elf Monk/Wizard and I have their character sheets, so new players could play them if they wish. This is a good-oriented campaign so no evil characters please.

To roll up your character: Roll 24 d6's, reroll 1's only once, and arrange 3 of the dice under each of the standard 6 abilities S D C I W Ch however you want (if you don't have 24 d6's, roll and write down the numbers and arrange the numbers). Ignore the remaining 6 dice. I'd prefer that all stats be at least 6, but if you really want to, you can have 1 stat below 6, as low as 3, but you'll really need to play that character accordingly ;) This method usually generates very nice numbers but not too ridiculous. If you get a lousy set of numbers, you can roll a 2nd time (without rerolling 1's) but then you're stuck with the results. Considering that the average roll should produce 4 6's, 4 5's, etc. to choose from (e.g. [masked]), that should be no problem. Then apply racial adjustments and fill in your character sheet as much as you can and bring it. Use the standard races, classes, money, and item costs in the D&D 3.5 Player's Handbook. I hope everyone has their own PH but at least enough to share without slowing down the game much. If you want to use a class, race, weapon, skill, feat, spell, or other feature in one of the other 3.5 books, then maybe; bring the book so I can check it out. I'll want to see all character sheets and approve them anyway, especially anything from Unearthed Arcana, I don't usually approve much from that book. Generally, no psionics, no poison, no evil characters, no level adjusted races (although I will consider up to ECL 4), no gestalt characters, start with a 4th level character with 6,000 XP and 4,000 GP and then buy your equipment at standard book prices. This may change a bit after we all get to higher levels. In case you pick an unusual race, please no ability adjustments over +2, and all ability adjustments must add up to 0 or less. I'm not real picky about equipment and encumbrance, just don't get ridiculous.

Normally only 1 character/player, please, but if we're really short, I have "extra" characters I can play or pass around (these can also be used by new players to get a quick start for trying out the game, if they want). I'm generally flexible and we're all in this to have fun, and we're off to a good start already :) See ya at our next game! If you're new (haven't played before 1/19/14), please post to express interest before you rsvp, I want our regular players to have time to rsvp before new players. We like to have ideally 5-6 players/characters each game.

Decent, especially considering some no shows and Monty having to leave early. Some challenging random encounters.

Y'all be sure and review http://www.meetup.com/CSDnD35/messages/boards/thread/40787422 which describes what happened last time and also has a link to the map of the known world and describes where we're headed. There's rumors that the destination has a temple which for many years had received tribute so they should have lots of treasure now, and it's rumored to have been abandoned. the fastest and straightest way to get there is by sea but y'all started by land, hoping to earn more money along the way by traveling with caravans. As mentioned, y'all get to Hath Hall and have earned some money helping a caravan blaze a shortcut through a forest filled with goblins and orcs. You may be able to sell the displacer beast hide before it rots too much to be of any use. Hope to see y'all at this game this Sunday. I'll also be celebrating my upcoming 60th birthday Tue. Jan. 21st.

We'll assume that Dain goes along with the party so he can stay with the adventures, he can just be inactive during this episode.

Ted, so you'll be starting a Ftr1/Rog2/Clr1 who will eventually take up an arcane caster class? Sounds interesting...

Sorry Ted, I don't remember, I may have, but I'd appreciate it if you'd resend it, thanks.

Gned, I decided to come check out Group 1 again. I plan to use the same Revised Ninja that I had originally played. If I stick around I plan to go into the Kender Ninja PrC that I had planned originally, we can discuss this PrC when I attend to determine if you feel if it is balanced enough or too OP.

OK, I found the XP data I had, you have 4,051 XP so 3rd level, does that match your records? You could resume at that point, you'd be a bit behind the group but would catch up quickly, I think that that would be a good challenge for a ninja, and a skilled ninja would be good at staying out of the direct line of fire. ;) I remember having an impression that the PrC kender ninja is too OP but we could tweak it, and that would be later on as you'd need more levels in your current ninja class anyway I'm sure, so we'd have additional experience with your class by the time we get to that point. Welcome aboard.

I figure y'all can travel by land 24 miles/day by foot or riding dogs, 32 miles/day if everyone has horses or ponies or riding dogs, and 96 miles/day (in good weather) by ship (galley). When traveling by sea in good weather, you can make scrolls or do similar things requiring time and skill, if you bought the appropriate supplies and have the appropriate skills.
