Satan's Kingdom & Carousing at the Cottage Part I

Back by popular request, our 5th annual tubing adventure!!!

Head on out to the country for a sometimes lazy, sometimes wild, tube ride on the picturesque Farmington River. We're heading out to Satan's Kingdom Tube Rides in beautiful New Hartford, Connecticut, for an afternoon of old fashioned fun, lazing our way down an incredible 2 1/2 mile stretch of the meandering Farmington.

The tube ride takes about 2 1/2 lazy hours to complete, so leave your city cares behind, relax and enjoy chilly water, the hot sun and the company of good friends, old and new. I went on this ride last summer with another group. Bunches of us ended up holding onto each other's tubes in large and small forming and reforming clusters for nearly the entire ride, creating an unforgettable floating party! Think of it as mix and mingle on the river! There are many ways to float the Farmington. Get creative!

IMPORTANT: Bring a change of clothes for after the river ride. There are rustic changing "cabins" near the picnic area.

I'd also suggest that you eat a late breakfast or early lunch before going tubing since you won't be able to eat while going down the river...and we don't want anyone chewing through their tube...

Please make sure you RSVP so that I can make a reservation for the group so we don't have to wait...and so that I can look for you and make sure you wind up with the right group. ;-)

IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE BE ON TIME. WE HAVE A FULL AFTERNOON AND EVENING OF EVENTS FOLLOWING THE TUBE RIDE (PART II)...SO WE WON'T BE ABLE TO WAIT BEYOND THE TIME IT TAKES US TO CHECK IN, DON OUR LIFE VESTS, GRAB OUR TUBES AND HEAD OFF...

Following our river ride, we will continue our lazy summer afternoon fun with a caravan over to Chris' Cottage, a few short miles away and go on to Part II of the day's activities. (Part II has it's own separate listing since some people may choose to come to only Part I or Part II ...and then there's a whole bunch who'll do both...).   You must sign up for each part of the event that you are planning on attending.  If you can't make it, please change your RSVP as soon in advance as possible.

BTW, IF YOU COME TOO LATE FOR PART I...YOU CAN CATCH UP WITH US AT PART II

For their fee of $20 per person (IMPORTANT: CASH ONLY ACCEPTED - No checks or credit/debit cards), Farmington River Tube Rides will provide oversized "donut" tubes with handles, safety instructions, life vests and guards in designated areas and a bus ride back to the picnic/changing area.

This stretch of the Farmington provides the perfect combination of slow, lazy meandering on flatwater and heart-pulsing rapids with three sections of each. You're gonna LOVE it!

Okay...SAFETY FIRST... You MUST be able to swim in order to participate in the tube ride.

IMPORTANT: Thoroughly read the safety instructions AND clothing recommendations provided in the following Farmington River Tube Rides website:http://www.farmington...

TIP: Complete the waiver form, printable from the website, in advance, in order to save check-in time.

Again, I took this ride last summer at about the same time and followed the advice on the website, wearing shorts over a bathing suit, with a T-shirt and water shoes (sneakers or water shoes are VERY important) I also wore a hat, since I'm sensitive to the sun...The water will be chilly, but not numbing. (Actually, it was hot enough out that the water felt pretty refreshing...and that's coming from someone who hates cold water...If it's a really hot day, you may even want to dive into the river for a swim when we get to an area that forms a natural pool...in a lovely setting...

Note: Children are welcomed at this event, however, please be sure to read the age/height requirements on the above website. Although Farmington River Tube Rides is a very safety-conscious and professional outfit, children should be at least 10 years old and be able to swim. Also, parents should float the river with their children.

Important: In the event of Thunder storms or rain, Part I will be canceled.

I'm bringing dessert, right? Do you want me to pick up anything else when I'm on my way? It's a beautiful day!
