I enjoyed myself and learned quite a few things. I thought that it was pretty neat when I started a fire using steel wool and a battery.
Much thanks to Kevin, Jason, and Chris. Looking forward for the next group meetup.

    Hey Jason,
Can you contact directly by email at [masked] or on Facebook as Chris Byrne from Goshen CT.

    January 16, 2014

  • Jason

I was thinking do we want to set a date in January for this event at Chris Byrne's location. If this is ok with you Chris. Not sure if we want to have it be part of spike's meeting or a separate date. If people would prefer it to be as a meet and greet with all new members then we go over the basics of prepping. We can also pass around a questionnaire of what people want to learn and their skill level in certain areas so they can help teach those topics. I m not sure but Chris if you guys also have a calendar of meet ups and topics that could be passed around. I am only suggesting Jan so no conflicts with holidays and it allows Chris for a more accurate head count for planning and others who want to help get this thing going. Really looking for people to post a comment to give some input.

Hey Jason, I am just seeing your message above. SO I have SPIKE Meetings set up for Jan 8th and 22nd. Additionally I have been invited by the Oath Keepers to help set up thier national training program based on the SPIKE Program. The plan is to set a date in January for a one day training to include several[masked] minute classes that people can rotate throughout the day and learn about Prepping, First Aid and one or two specialty classes as well. I agreed to do this providing it is open to the public and we will keep the costs low. SO I am not opossed to doing something on a Saturday for NESP but I need to finalize the Oath Keepers date first.

How many people normally show for this type of event?
What do hope to get out of the event?
Do you have a meeting plan?

    December 30, 2013

    • LennyM

      Thanks for the reply, Jason.
I assume the meeting place that Chris Byrne uses is in Goshen. I have not attended any of the meetings so I do not know what is required for a meeting location. Does it need to be indoors? Certain time or particular day? How many people attend the meetings? If the majority of the members are near Goshen then it might not make sense to have the meeting in Colchester or other location.

      December 30, 2013

    • CHris B.

My SPIKE gRoup generally has about 30+ people show up for meetings. we have about twice that number in active members, but not everyone can come to every meeting. I hold the meetings in a training room at my Kennel. We serve up a catered dinner so training is not interupted and the cost is $25

      December 30, 2013

  • CHris B.

I am hosting one of our SPIKE Meeting tomorrow night Wednesday Nov 20th from 6-10 pm at Stonehill Kennel 345 Sharon Turnpike (Route 4 west) Goshen CT 06756. The training topics will be an improvised weapon self defense and Ham radio communications. both taugh by subject matter experts. The cost is $25 and includes a catered meal. All are welcome, but please give me a heads up by emailing me at [masked] so I can plan for food or if you have any questions. also check out our website for more info at www.spike-team.com

Chris: when is the next meeting after this one?

      November 20, 2013

  • CHris B.

So is this going to be a wilderness or urban survival/prepping class? I'm sure I can line up myself and a couple others to educate. I have a big screen and projector set up with DVD/VHS and computer connection. Let me know what I can do to help make this happen.

    November 17, 2013

  • Jason

Well this sounds like the spot. Now we just need to see when it has openings, cost, and when. Do we want to wait till after the holiday's? Plus topic? Who will want to present? To new members, this was originally set up by Adam. The past leader, who past away, so we are trying to just figure out what is best here. Really need input from people attending what they want to get of this. I really think it should be setup as a monthly or bimonthly meet up.

    November 17, 2013

  • CHris B.

I have a location in Goshen (NW CT) where I could sponsor a meet up. I run the CT SPIKE (Specially Prepared Individuals for Key Events) Team. We also meet every other Wednesday evening from 6-10 and do training as a group. Wilderness and urban survival, land navigation, communications, emergency medicine, self defense alternative energy and much more. I can make my facility avalable evenings and some Saturdays.

      November 15, 2013

Do we want to set this up as a monthly meeting. With each month different topic geared for that time of the year. Like say now different uses of apples, making apple vinegar, cider, hard cider, preserves. Getting prepared for cold winter storms. Winterized home if you loose power i.e. using foil to reflect heat back in, clear shower curtains over windows to allow sun in but prevent heat lost. Alternate Ways to make heat/stoves. Foods and remedies and helpful hints fighting flu and colds. I always make tinctures from herbs and flowers from my garden. Just wondering. If we do this do we need to rent a room or hopefully something free were we can meet. Just wondering on anyone's input.

I am in central CT. I have experience with map reading, land navigation and first aid. All my experience comes from 22 years in the US Army. Since training is based on doctrine, I am interested in learning other techniques as well. Sleeping on the ground comes with the job, as well as fieldcraft. I'm in for a meeting.

    October 14, 2013

  • Jason

Is anyone good at plant identification for finding ones for food and medicine. I know basics. Anyone know about canning you own food? I am basic. Not sure what people want to learn. ie being prepared for storms. Food storage purify water, building shelter, the must of prepper supplies. Treating injuries when far from medical aid. Shooting range. Camping. Any thoughts?

    1 · October 12, 2013

  • Jason

Hey if we are planning on doing this. People should post what they want to learn and who can give lessons. I would like to know how to make cordage, skin and clean game, best way to give my son a warm bath in winter with no power besides boiling water.

Central CT/New Haven County here, too. Brand new to this - only signed up to Meet Ups and ran across this group a few weeks ago and was disappointed to see that it pretty much wasn't active anymore.

Jason,CT Preppers and this site were set up by Adam. Now that he is no longer with us, we need someone to run the site and combined them properly. If you have any thoughts or information on this please get it together. I think that if we could combined them, it may work out for the better.

There is another prepper group called ct preppers. I did choose this one because it would allow for more people to join who can share more knowledge living in different types of environments. However the other organizers have not checked this website in over a year and several months ago. They would probably have the best understanding to what goes on behind the scenes for this website and group to work. I can offer help, but I am truly in the dark when it comes to running a website.

So sorry to hear that I did not know. I only talked to Adam via emails. I m not sure if this was for wilderness outdoor survival or basics for your home for natural disasters. Or basics for home self defense. try to contact CERT about classes which deal more on disasters. Community emergency response team. And it makes you certified.
