I hope this is the correct place to suggest a topic, if not then I am sorry!
In todays modern world we have access to multitudes of data and information in the palm of our hand. Information and skills which only 10 years ago may have taken weeks to pass along can be found on google in a matter of seconds, lernt and then inevitably forgotten.
To me this concept of learn, use, forget is a scary one! I remember 20 years ago (I am a young guy) I would need to remember each and every friends house phone number, knowledge required you to read a book and retain the information for future use!
As well as the apparent mental degradation we can also look at the social impact the the online world has had. The common phrase "but I am socialising" which is used all to often now. Do we as a species actually need face to face communication in the real world?
So to summarise that is my proposed topic of discussion.
"Is technology actually sending us backwards mentally and socially?"
Thanks to Phil for offering some input on widening the topic.
Have a great week everyone and I hope my first contribution to the group is acceptable.
We meet at the back of the pub in the raised area on the left. The discussion starts at about 7:40 so please try to be there with drinks before then.
