Winchester Skeptics: How to Avoid Believing in Nonsense

Tonight's talk and discussion at the Winchester Skeptics is led by Stephen Law on the subject of "How to Avoid Believing in Nonsense".

Members of the Heavens Gate suicide cult believed they were taking a ride to heaven on board a UFO. Many fundamentalist Christians insist the entire universe is just 6,000 years old. Of course it's not only cults and religions that promote bizarre beliefs. How do such preposterous views succeed in entrenching themselves in the minds of sane, intelligent, educated people and turn them into the willing slaves of claptrap.

Winchester Skeptics meet on the last Thursday of the month and are open to all regardless of beliefs. Each month's talk is followed by a short break and then a Q&A session. Winchester Skeptics are part of a national network of events and is organised by the Hampshire Skeptics Society.

Interesting evening. May well buy the book, still not convinced I can tell if I'm in a black-hole already...
