Winchester Skeptics: "Hi-Fi Woo"

Tonight's talk by the Winchester Skeptics is led by Ben Hardwidge on the subject of "Hi-Fi Woo".  The talks for Winchester Skeptics start at 7.30pm in the main lecture theatre.

Ben lays out the skinny on the amazingly profitable world of hi-fi woo.  So what is "hi-fi woo"?  Hi-Fi woo (also known as Audio woo) consists of unsupportable claims for devices or methods for getting better sound quality from systems that reproduce recorded music. Such claims are made by manufacturers, hobbyists, and writers in the field.

Very interesting to meet a journalist who actually writes for magazines that I used to read. Confirmed my suspicions about cables etc. I don't like paying more than £1.99 for a cable :-) A cheap way to improve your listening experience is to have a glass of wine in your hand :-)

There is a high end audio manufacturer called 'Woo Audio'. ...Which is kind of unfortunate really, given the talk topic. http://www.wooaudio.com/
