The fee for this brunch has changed this year to $32 for adults and $28 for seniors. Please change your RSVP if this changes your plans. However the Menger Hotel has free parking so just pull into the valet parking entrance and the restaurant will validate for you after lunch. This has become a yearly tradition, celebrating the New Year with lunch at the Colonial Room at the Menger Hotel. The buffet has a wide variety of things to choose from and last year it was all delicious. This hotel is a Victorian gem, from the colonnaded foyer with a stained glass skylight under which the huge Christmas tree should still be set up to the dark paneling throughout offset by authentic period pieces, this is a piece of history not to be missed. After dinner, we could have a drink in the Menger Bar. This bar is unique and worth the visit itself - it was shipped directly from England and is a copy of the one in the House of Lords in London. It is all dark wood paneling with a second floor balcony reached up a narrow twisty staircase right out of anything written by Dickens that overhangs one half of the room making the tables under it as cozy as the balcony above it. Teddy Roosevelt hung out here recruiting cowboys for his Rough Riders to accompany him in the Spanish American War and that memorabilia is all over the walls.
