Monthly Beer Tasting Group

This location is shown only to members

In the tradition of wine tasting groups everywhere who meet on a monthly basis to try new vintages, meet new people and generally talk wine, I want to start a monthly beer tasting group.

The plan is to meet on the last Sat of every month at a different house, bring an appetizer and new and interesting brew with you for others to sample. The host supplies the venue, water, pop and coffee if needed, name tags and a theme for the night. The host would limit #s to the event to fill their available space. In the future, we could hold our regular meetings at a beer venue instead. It would be open to couples but everyone would have to bring a beverage to share.

With a large enough group we can rotate houses every month, take a couple of months off over summer and Xmas but have the opportunity to sample beers and appetizers that we normally not get to try. It would also give other the opportunity to learn about and try different brews without have to invest in a whole bottle.

I would like to start at the end of Jan, 2012. This event is simply to gauge interest for this idea. If anyone is willing to host the first meeting, let me know.

I could handle about 6-10 people at my condo near Brentwood for the first meeting. I got a sampler case from a beer club as a gift, so an excuse to try a couple sounds great.

Here is what I ask.....please post in the comments what beer you will bring to avoid duplicates. Preference is for a min 500ml bottle of something interesting and an appetizer for up to 10. Guest are welcome but each attendee should bring a different bottle but can share one appetizer. I will endevour to take pics of each bottle and post it afterwards so we can keep track of what was brought. We will limit our first meeting to 10 and see how it goes..:)

Hey Robin, if you are heading down south for the next event, and in case I don't make it, could I get you to carry some stuff for the next Green Drinks event to Richard?

I'll bring a selection of beers from Birrificio Del Ducato, a craft brewery in Ronde de Verdi, Italy. Relatively new to Canada, so I'm sure not many people have seen or tried them.

@David - I have not heard of that brewery before, but I like the look of the products on their website - http://www.birrificiodelducato.it

FYI to all - January 24 is (was!) Beer Can Appreciation Day - the first beer can was Kreuger's Cream Ale in 1935 - http://www.wired.com/thisdayintech/tag/krueger-brewery/ - interesting that it took 25 years to perfect the concept!! - so I'll plan to bring a few cans to honour the invention!

Hey, those sound like great beer, looking forward to trying them. I think I'll contribute by bringing one can of Miller Chill. Hope you're as excited as I am!

.....as if. I'll bring some Mill St. Barley Wine.

Sorry I can't make it. I do have an update on Brew Brothers Brewery and their growlers. Al is making the filler this next week and expects to be ready the week after to start pouring. You can buy 2 Ls of their beer right on site.
