XC Ski: Bragg Creek

*ack* Last minute snow! Anyone up for checking out the conditions for cross country skiing in Bragg Creek on Sunday? There may be trail blazing (don't think its been packed/trackset yet), there may be variable conditions (tufts of grass peeking through?), there may be abominable snow persons (???) but there's been snow in Calgary, so its a good time to see what Bragg Creek looks like.

This trip is for those who have been on cross country skis before, and know how to use them (snowplow and herringbone). Rank beginners should take lessons before attending.

A good level of fitness is required - please be realistic about your abilities. You must be able to commit to the entire event.

Note: Location may change, or event may be cancelled if there is insufficient snow or poor weather conditions.

Rating: Moderate XC Ski (D3)
Distance: 15-20 km
Elevation gain:[masked] m
Time: 3 - 4 hours (+ driving time; 1h one way)

Additional info:

  • XC skis, boots, poles, waxes (as necessary)
  • Proper seasonal wear (dress in layers, mitts, toque, snow pants etc, spare socks)
  • Post-ski change of clothes (in case you worked up a sweat)
  • Lunch, snacks and water (+ tea/coffee)
  • Sun glasses, sunscreen, SPF-rated chap stick
  • No jeans, no cotton clothing of any kind!

We will meet at the in-Calgary meeting point and carpool from there.

Drive the Trans-Canada to Hwy #22. Go south on Hwy #22 to Bragg Creek. At the big stop sign, turn right. Across the bridge, turn left then travel 9km to the parking lot. (Google Maps)

You must sign a trip waiver and contact information form to attend this event. The event organizer will have these for you.

I'm fine with any time... Perhaps 8:30

Since people actually signed up, I'd want them to indicate if an earlier time is okay. I think Tamara is usually good for an early start, but I'm not sure about Tara. I'd propose either 9am or 8am.

Erika, you mentioned you're flexible with a start time. Would 8 or 8:30 am work to make this trip more of a half day event?

I can be flexible on the start time if its an issue.
