Start that New Years resolution by ripping through the Kananaskis trails on cross country skis. We'll start by heading along Ribbon Creek, then partially double back to stomp up Kovach, and cruise around and back to the parking lot. If its too easy, bring a heavy backpack to get a weighted start on training for backpacking season (only 4 months away!).
Note: This is not a professionally guided trip - you partake at your own risk. Location may change, or event may be cancelled if there is insufficient snow or the roads are closed. A good level of fitness is required - please be realistic about your abilities. You must be able to commit to the entire event.

EQUIPMENT:
Gear can be rented at UofC Outdoor Center or MEC. Please pick up equipment before the meetup time. I recommended renting waxless skis if you're new to the sport.
DRIVING AND DIRECTIONS:
We will meet at the in-Calgary meeting point and carpool from there. Please be on time as we will only wait a short while past past the departure time before we leave.
Location: From the Trans-Canada highway, go south onto Highway 40. 23.1km from the Trans-Canada, turn right onto Mt. Allen Drive (obvious signs for Kananaskis Village). At the first road, turn left, and then immediately turn right. At the end of this road, past Ribbon Creek Hostel, is the parking lot and trailhead. (Google Maps)
WAIVER:
You must sign a trip waiver and contact information form to attend this event. The event organizer will have these for you.
Was a great trip for someone new to the sport. Thanks for organizing Erika, and for your patience!

Conditions are looking good for tomorrow. Some of the tracks were set as recently as Thursday, with the potential for some to be done today. Forecast says high of -6oC though it may feel like -9oC. Come with layers, lunch, and all your equipment so we're right ready to go at 9am - see you tomorrow!

I was totally hoping to but my new skis haven't arrived yet. Hopefully if there's another easy/intermediate one I can attend.

Right now, we only have enough drivers/car space to take 6 (or 7 if someone small wants to be really squishy in the car). I've not heard from Desmond, Shawn, or Tamara as to whether they can drive. If drivers don't step forward by tomorrow evening, I'll have to put people on a waiting list until/unless others drop out.
January 3
I can take two.
