First of all, for the record, this is not an "official" HOGS trip due to the extent of the trip.
With that said, the Chilkoot Trail, starting at Skagway in Alaska and ending at Bennett Lake in B.C., is the trail which the Klondykers of[masked] used to access the gold rush. After hauling a tonne of goods up and over the pass to Bennett, they built their boats and when the ice went out in early June, they "sailed" down to Dawson City.
Here is one of many websites on the hike - http://www.nps.gov/klgo/planyourvisit/chilkoottrail.htm .
It is a 5 day hike, around 1000 m of vertical climb and 53 km in length. As the group found out in 2012, the weather can be a little "iffy", but the country is beautiful and the history is nothing short of goosebump producing.
Why post this now, well for you long range planners, you may need a year or more to make arrangements, like booking with work for holidays. So that's why we post this so early. Also, we will be reserving our spot on the hike first thing in January, 2014, so we will need to get some commitment.
The group will be a max of 8, we will have a waiting list, and your name does not go on until you pay up. It will be around $60, if I recall, to travel on the trail.
