The ERCC is a 2 day bicycle riding event to take place on August 10th-11th, 2013. During this bold journey, about 1800 participants will ride their bicycles for more than 200KM over 2 days in the fight against cancer.
On its fifth year, ERCC has a brand new route. The first day will start from Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary, the route will go through the Calgary SW quadrant before heading west to Bragg Creek, south to Turner Valley/Black Diamond, and then east to Okotoks. The second day starts from Okotoks, heading south, before heading west and north to go back to Black Diamond/Turner Valley. The event will end where it started, Grey Eagle Casino.
Be a part of the Boobs on Bike (moto safety)! What you need: simple, you need to be a motorcycle rider with a motorcycle. Your driver’s license, insurance and registration are in order. You’re a happy person who wants to help defeat cancer.
Who are the Boobs on Bike? About ten years ago, Alberta Cancer Foundation (“ACF”) organized a weekend walk of 60KM to help fight breast cancer. The moto safety group then decided to name themselves Boobs on Bike as a reference to the walk to end breast cancer and to the fact they were riding their motorcycle while volunteering at the event.
Since then, the participation expanded. The group provides safety to the participants of many ACF events: Underwear Affair – Calgary and Edmonton, ERCC, and until last year the Weekend Walk to End Women’s Cancer (previously Breast Cancer).
Our role is to keep the participants safe and cheer them up. You’ll be assigned to a corner where you’ll make sure the riders follow the proper route, follow the laws and respect the traffic lights, stop, etc. You’ll need to hold your post from the first to the last rider.
Your time commitment:
• The All Volunteers Meeting on Friday, August 9th at 6PM will be held at the Delta South Calgary. It should be about an hour, and then a quick meeting for the moto safety group.
• Saturday, 7:15 am until 7:00 pm
• Sunday, 7:00 am until 6:00 pm
Note 1: ERCC is a rain or shine event. Be prepared for all weather conditions. Bring rain gear, an umbrella, and sunscreen. Also, bring comfortable shoes as you’ll be standing for a long period of time.
Note 2: Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided on Saturday and Sunday.
Note 3: The moto safety group has already 30 volunteers, but the optimal number is 40-45 volunteers. We’re looking for 15 more volunteers to join the Boobs on Bike!
