Jasper 2014

Our annual Jasper weekend!!!!!

This is a camping overnight trip. We have done this for few years now and it has always been tons of fun. We ride to Jasper via Banff and Hwy 93. It’s a beautiful 4 hour ride there. Each rider will be responsible for booking their own site. When we get to Jasper, we set our tents and go for a bite to eat and maybe soak in the Miette hot spring about 80k from Jasper . Bring beer back to the site and have fire. Bring lots of mosquito repellant. Email me for more info if needed.  The booking services for the camp sites open on April 1st.   Thanks, Simona

Janos I have a small update on your bike. Brad and I are hoping you are not going to be disappointed or upset but, it make take a few extra days to get your bike back.
The reason is this; where we had your bike dropped off (the company my son works for), the guys are all avid bikers and don't like that it is not running. They are talking about getting it running before it comes back. You did not leave the key but they said that's ok, don't need one. May have to reimburse for a few parts but we will know more later.
So, in short Janos, it just may come back in better shape than when it left. Will make sure you are updated. Hope that puts a smile on your face for today :-)
    Cheers
    Mike and Brad (Synkt) Taddeo

Mike, you just made my day!! :-D that would be great. I'll gladly pay for the parts, I know she needs a couple of parts and a lot of work anyways. But that sounds just great!

No Mike I don't need it pulled back here. I got it running again then it broke down again at Saskatchewan crossing. Phoned my father he came out with a truck loaded it up and was back in calgary Monday night. Bike is being torn down in the garage now

I was fortunate to be on this excellent trip, beautiful ride with wonderful scenery, particularly with mist of rain and the smoke of forest fire. Even though missed out the fun part of camping, I had big laughs of some rock planting job, and countless goofy activities .... . Everybody in the group was so nice and helpful when 2 bikes had broken down, just want to take this opportunity to tell how much contribution our reliable, kind caring members had made. I witnessed seeing three prominent riders among all: Ken, and the Taddeos: Brad and Mike.

I would like to give this a 5 star as did Kevin and Jim. I know we had some heavy rain at times and I almost had a few drops get me, near miss :-)
It was a lot of fun and I know keeping that many bikes organized and together can be tough. Thanks to the lead for doing so. Everyone was safe and that is the most important!
As usual we had the part of any trip which is not as much fun but, the group stuck together to make sure it was under control. Awesome weekend all and look forward to doing it again. I should have some photos to post this evening but, I think this photo is worth way more than a thousand words. It was a fun weekend!

Maybe next time we'll get to the Hot Springs... lol. But after a long, wet ride, dinner and refreshments were priority one. A great group that rides well and looks after each other.

I'm giving this meetup 5 stars. Really enjoyed the weekend, the company was great, campground was perfect. Next year we should get there a bit earlier in the day so we have more time to visit the hot springs. Thanks everyone, it was a lot of fun. :)

It will be good to hear your review of it. We might hit it on the way home. Last year was pretty rushed to get the hit springs in so I'm gonna push through on the way up.

  • Janos G.

Guys question on the route. Can we please take the 1A to Can more, and then after Banff again? I know it doesn't go through all the way to the 93, but I just wanna avoid the big trans Canada as much as possible... Thanks!

    July 17

    • Kevin

Calgary to Louise via the 1A is 190 km. and Louise to Jasper is 232 km. Most bikes ought to be able to make those distances, but if anyone can't then stopping at Sask River crossing is an option. The gas price there is among the highest in Canada.

      July 18

    • Janos G.

I'm probably not going to make 232km with one tank, sorry...

    lastest news :
With recent rainfall the fire hazard for the Rocky Mountain House Wildfire Management Area is at a moderate level.
was downgraded from Extreme when i looked this morning

  • Johnson H.

    Fire ban is in effect

    July 16

    • Johnson H.

Does that include the site we are at Jim?

      July 18

    • Kevin

No. The fire ban is not in effect where we are staying.

      July 18

  • Kevin

Just an update on the forest fire... The fire is located near the Saskatchewan river crossing near hwy 11. The Jasper highway,#93 is still open. They claim the fire is contained and not spreading. Smoke seems to be worse east and north. I think we will be okay on Jasper. Although we may encounter smoke on the way up since we will pass quite near the fire. Check the link... http://srd.web.alberta.ca/rocky-mountain-house-area-update

Thank you Kevin for the useful information

Hello All, please book your site. It is a real pain in the ass to do so. I took me everything I have not to break my own computer.

This is where I booked mine. Location: Jasper National Park of Canada
    Campground: Pocahontas
    Site: F10
    Site Type: Campsite
    Service Level: Unserviced

    1 · June 30

  • Dave

There is not too much left for hotels in town at a reasonable price. I just booked Whistlers campsite (6J), and there are still spots there, but they are probably going fast. I think you can put two tents per site, if anyone wants to share.
