This ride will be for Relatively New Riders who have been out on the highway before, but who have less than 2 years’ experience in riding with a group. I have capped the group size at 7 riders (two of which are Simona and myself), in order to keep the group small and manageable as well as being unintimidating for newer riders – therefore please only sign up if you fit the description of a relatively new rider!
We will meet up at the McKenzie Lake Esso at 6:30PM and head west of town to towards Little Elbow at the end of Hwy 66. This will be a relatively easy ride with great scenery, and we will be keeping to the speed limit the entire way. Expect to spend 2-3 hours with stops along the way.
And now the safety stuff:
Riding in a group is intimidating for newer riders and that is why we are doing this ride – in order to keep it easy and unintimidating. One of the most common causes of crashes by riders in a group is the need to feel like you can keep up or because you do not want to hold anyone else up. Therefore IT IS CRITICAL that you ride your own ride at your own pace. If you are not comfortable at the speed we are going slow down. If we get separated the tail rider will know the way and will pull ahead to bring the group back together. The sun should still be fairly high as we are heading west but remember your sunglasses.
And then the obvious stuff:
Be ready to go at the McKenzie Lake Esso with a full tank of gas at 6:30.
It’s relatively short notice so if we do not get the full 5 riders it is no big deal. We are going to head out for this one regardless – crappy weather as the only exception! Link to the ESSO (it says permanently closed but it has reopened and you can fill your tank there)
