Relatively New Riders Ride

This ride will be for Relatively New Riders who have been out on the highway before, but who have less than 2 years’ experience in riding with a group. I have capped the group size at 7 riders (two of which are Simona and myself), in order to keep the group small and manageable as well as being unintimidating for newer riders – therefore please only sign up if you fit the description of a relatively new rider!
We will meet up at the McKenzie Lake Esso at 6:30PM and head west of town to towards Little Elbow at the end of Hwy 66. This will be a relatively easy ride with great scenery, and we will be keeping to the speed limit the entire way. Expect to spend 2-3 hours with stops along the way.
And now the safety stuff:
Riding in a group is intimidating for newer riders and that is why we are doing this ride – in order to keep it easy and unintimidating. One of the most common causes of crashes by riders in a group is the need to feel like you can keep up or because you do not want to hold anyone else up. Therefore IT IS CRITICAL that you ride your own ride at your own pace. If you are not comfortable at the speed we are going slow down. If we get separated the tail rider will know the way and will pull ahead to bring the group back together. The sun should still be fairly high as we are heading west but remember your sunglasses.
And then the obvious stuff:
Be ready to go at the McKenzie Lake Esso with a full tank of gas at 6:30.
It’s relatively short notice so if we do not get the full 5 riders it is no big deal. We are going to head out for this one regardless – crappy weather as the only exception! Link to the ESSO (it says permanently closed but it has reopened and you can fill your tank there),-113.980909,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x537177bb68927851:0x897e89bf963ee5d

Thank you for the ride guys, and thank you for organizing this, Bruce. It was nice to meet everyone!
Could have been much better without those cops though; hope everything is OK...

Well it's a sad day for my $220 new avon tire with >1200k on it. Not holding air good enough. Sorry, I'll need to raincheck on this one...

Hey guys, I hate to say this last minute, but I while riding today a few hours ago I got a screw in my back tire. I just finished plugging it & I'm waiting to see if it will hold. So I may or may not be able to make it out. Not a good way to end the work day, Grrr... I'll post if I'll be there in the next few min when I get some air back in it. (Any advice on riding on a plugged tire?) can I ride in it or shod I go book getting a new tire?

Two hours to go and the weather looks like it is going to work. Remember to be there gassed up and ready to go at 6:30PM. If there is no room in front of the ESSO we will be around back. I hear rumors that there could be a nice shiney GS 1200 joining us too. I'll be on a white Ducati:)

Sorry guys I will not be able to make it today. I am fasting for the next month and I don't think it's a good idea to do a full day at work and ride for 3 hours after! I hope someone else can take up the free spot...

Hey Roy, if you don't get a spot why don't you and I do a ride?

Ya let's do that. I'm riding to work tomorrow so hopefully I get out on time.

Roy, I'm off at 2 today, so let's meet at the beacon hill Starbucks instead of the Westhills Starbucks...message me if that's a problem

Could we set one up in the North part of the City at some point? This is a great idea!

Thanks Leandra, seeing how many meetups you have been to and reading your comments about being more of a sightseer than a speed demon satisfies me!

Wow. That took all of 45 minutes to fill all of the spots. Looking forward to it everyone.
