Hiking with Heidi - Old Goat Glacier (Difficult)

Length: 8-12km
Duration: 6- 8hours
Elevation Gain: ~650m

This trail is listed in many places as strenuous and certainly by the Nature Lovers standards this will be difficult. I have hiked this in the summer, and on my snowshoes in the winter. The waterfall is beautiful and much like Ptarmigan cirque the habitat is quite unique. We will not be walking on the glacier. It is too dangerous. Please keep this in mind when signing up for the hike.

The trail head is off the Smith-Dorrien Hwy 742 South of Canmore. We will carpool as usual from Shouldice. Since there is some travel on a gravel road I suggest 20$ for carpooling fee. I would like to stop in Canmore on the way back and go to the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company or at the very least, ICE CREAM!
Please dress/pack for the weather. We are at the time of year where you should have something warm to drink or eat and bring clothing layers to combat the chill. More than likely we will hike into snow.

Now for the mean bits (sorry):
No dogs
No smokers
No walk-ups, you must be on the attendees list in order to come.
Please and thank you :-)

Suggested Clothing & Gear:
Bring appropriate clothing – dress in layers.
Hat/Cap/Touque
Jacket
Weather gear
Hiking Boots (NO SNEAKERS)
Gaitors
Sun Screen
Hiking Pole(s)
Icers/cleats (optional)
Lunch
At least 2L of Water + tea or soup
Snacks
Bear Spray
Personal First Aid Kit
Camera/Binoculars

This hike which was my first hike with Nature Lovers was beyound my expectations, it was wonderfull and relaxing. Heidi's hike was more than a hike, it was enjoyable and in the meantime educational.
I appreciate the level of care and attention.

Hi Everyone! Wow! I didn't think the hike would be so popular! I am willing to add those on the wait list to the hike but I need to know for sure that we have at least one more driver or room for 4 more passengers. Between me and Mike driving we are able to take 10 people total...Can anyone else drive?

Thank Nicole, your car should be fine. The trail head is not far south of Canmore. Maybe less than 20km. If the road seems to be difficult, we can always shuttle from the parking area by the gate/grassi lakes parking lot. I just hate to leave people behind if they really want to come and are prepared. See you in the morning!

That would be great if your mom wants to join but I think we'll be fine either way...

Hello ! Camille and me are registered for this hike, but we don't have a car. Is it possible to carpool, is there enough cars ?
    Thank you !

Good boots, clothes and food/water are most important...we will be hiking on snow so poles can be helpful. However, they are not mandatory. See you Monday!
