Hiking with Heidi -Lady MacDonald/ Teahouse Ridge (Difficult)

Length: 8-12km
Duration: 6- 8hours
Elevation Gain: ~850m

This trail is listed as strenuous and certainly by the Nature Lovers standards this will be very difficult. The elevation gain is extreme for the few kilometers that we'll have to ascend. This can also be difficult to descend and is very steep. However, the views are well worth the effort. The trail head is on the north side of Canmore. I will confirm before the hike if we have to use the montane traverse or if there is enough of a trail from the Alpine Club.

We will carpool as usual from Shouldice. I suggest 15$ for carpooling fee. I would like to stop in Canmore on the way back and go to the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company or at the very least, ICE CREAM!

Please dress/pack for the weather. We are at the time of year where you should have something warm to drink or eat and bring clothing layers to combat the chill. More than likely we will hike into snow.

I have kept the group small. However, as always I will monitor any wait list that forms.

Now for the mean bits (sorry):

No smokers
No dogs
No summiteers - this is not a competition
No walk-ups, you must be on the attendees list in order to come
Please and thank you :-)

Suggested Clothing & Gear:
Bring appropriate clothing – dress in layers.
Hat/Cap/Toque
Jacket
Weather gear
Hiking Boots (NO SNEAKERS)
Gaitors
Hiking Pole(s)
Icers/cleats (optional)
Lunch
At least 2L of Water + tea or soup
Snacks
Bear Spray
Personal First Aid Kit
Camera/Binoculars

Sorry for the delay in getting the snowman and snake photos posted. Wish these 2 had been together!

This was a great day for me. Thank you for joining me. I managed to drop about 1.5hrs off the last time I did this hike! A very successful day blessed with great weather and company.

Jolene, I only saw you get to the knoll above the helipad. The ridge is the knife's edge (~2600m). So the knoll is at ~2300m, the helipad was 2225m and we started at ~1350m. So 875m to the helipad and maybe 925m or 950m to the knoll. An excellent effort :-) no wonder your legs are giving you grief! As for total distance, the knoll will probably be about 3.5km one way. So 7km rt. I think Mac and I did 6km. I hope this helps...I'm still in awe, what an excellent day!

Absolutely perfect day for this hike - bright, cool weather, spectacular views and enough snow for a snowman on the helipad!. great event Heidi.

Agreed! AMAZING DAY. My lord my legs are sore, but totally worth every ache.
Heidi, what was the elevation gain up to the Knife's edge (that's the point right above the helipad that we went up to right?), and what was the total distance of the hike?

I can drive tomorrow if that helps :)

We will probably need one more person to drive. I'll confirm in the morning at Shouldice once we know how many people we have for sure.

If so I can drive myself and my friend that I'm bringing. I don't know how long the entire trip there and back will be total, but we both need to be back in the city by 6-6:30 pm for prior plans. We'll talk more tomorrow morning!

Very excited for the hike tomorrow! Will we be going right to the top of the ridge, weather and skill levels permitting?
This is my first meetup, and I can't wait!

We will try to make the helipad/teahouse for sure and then the summit is dependent on so many things...I am not a summiteer so if it's too risky I won't lead the group there. Live to hike another day!
