    CARPOOLS

    http://files.meetup.com/1777151/Carpooling.txt

Please indicate when you sign up if you are able to offer a ride. Frank & I do not arrange car pools.

Please arrange costs for the car pool directly with your driver

No park pass is required for this hike

If you need a ride please contact the people who offer rides by clicking on their photo and sending them an e-mail.

    WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

    Lunch

Water  - 2 litres or more if required

    Granola bars or trail mix

    Small first aid kit

    Hiking boots are mandatory

A large piece of plastic or something to sit on during lunch

A plastic bag to take your dirty boots home in

    Bear Spray

Towels (we found a lovely paddling area last year and if there is time we may want to spend some time there at the end of the walk)

    CLOTHING

Large heavy coats will be too hot We suggest you dress in layers and do not wear COTTON this includes jeans. Make sure you have room in your pack to store your jacket in case you need to take it off if you get too hot. Note that when we stop for lunch you will cool down, so you may want to have a spare top in your backpack to pop on while we eat.  Extra dry mitts are a great idea too.   (We always leave another change of clothes in the car so we have something dry to drive home in).

Please check out the pages tab for more information on what to bring when going into the mountains in the spring/summer:  http://www.meetup.com/Calgary-Nature-Lovers-Hiking-Meetup/about/

ALL TRIPS ARE DEPENDENT ON WEATHER CONDITIONS SO THE MORNING OF THE TRIP PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE TO MAKE SURE THE TRIP ISN'T CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS.

    Hi Frank
It is ok to camp out after the hike, I wanna stay there overnight, do you know any good camp site

    June 8

    • Heidi H.

Hi Nien, There is no camping on the lookout site itself but there are a number of random camping areas along the Waiparous Valley Road. As well as a number of camping turn outs in the Ghost Recreation Area like this one: http://www.albertapar...

  • Julieann

Is the return trip total 5.8km?

    May 26

    • Frank & L.

Yes, Julieann, it's all uphill going, lots of switchbacks and we are following the access road to the top

      May 29

  • Frank & L.

The fire look out person at this station loves visitors and is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area (if it's the same one as last year). She also loves snack food, like chocolate, candies etc. So if you feel inclined it would be nice to bring a small something for her .... we are going to be invading her front garden!!!

    May 13

    • Heidi H.

Hi Frank and Linda, The lookout person has changed this year and is a health food foodie :-) She is still friendly and looking forward to kindly visitors.

      May 21

    • Frank & L.

Thanks Heidi - in that case some healthy treats may be the way to go!!!

    May 13

    • Frank & L.

Hi Judy - can't hurt to carry them. We are hopeful that by the end of June it should be pretty clear
