WE WILL MEET IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE INFORMATION CENTRE IN CANMORE.

The drive from Canmore to Boom Lake takes approximately another hour

SORRY NO PETS ALLOWED

THIS WILL BE A FULL DAY OUT, INCLUDING STOPPING AT THE HOT SPRINGS IN BANFF FOR A DIP FOLLOWED BY SUPPER AT THE SPAGHETTI FACTORY IN BANFF

THIS HIKE IS NEW TO US PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE FIND OUR WAY

Boom Lake

Time: Long half-day Hike

Distance 5.1 km one-way

Elevation Gain 185 m (600 ft)

Difficulty:  Easy

Boom Lake is a wonderful hike to see the real, pristine Rockies in Banff National Park. The trail starts high up near the continental divide so the elevation gain and steepness of the trail is minimized. The trail is wide and easy to follow; after a short climb, the trail levels out through picturesque forest, with snow-capped mountains rearing over the treetops.   The trail opens up onto a beautiful, large, alpine lake sitting directly at the timberline and right below the jagged edge of the continental divide.

We will stop at the lake for lunch and to regroup.

Car Pooling

  • Please indicate when signing up if you are willing to drive.
  • If you need a ride please contact the driver via e-mail using this page to arrange a pick up spot and $$ for gas.
  • Frank & I do not arrange rides or car pooling.

Directions:

Please let us know when you sign up if you are meeting us at the trailhead

Go west from Calgary, and continue west from Banff on the Trans Canada Highway (#1). Turn south-west on Hwy 93 to Radium, B.C. and ascend the continental divide. The trailhead is 7.1km down the road on your right (west) side just before you reach the summit of the divide (stay in Alberta) and starts at the end of a well marked parking area.

TO all photographers.... if you are uploading pics into the photo section from your computer.... could you maybe highlight the first pic then press down the CTRL key and just highlight the best of your shots to avoid downloading ones that are out of focus, dark, not relevant etc. that will give more space (max 500) on the album
    Thanks muchly

F Y I: we trekked up to the trail end of the marble canyon trail and we found a slab of marble in memoriam of sage and shea o'neill...we were wondering what happened to them in 2003!...on my way home, the thought kept haunting me and so grabbed my phone and googled it..this is what happened: the siblings are hiking with their parents on june[masked] when a 20 meter spruce tree was blown by a strong gust of wind and slid down on embankment and struck the children..one died instantly..meanwhile,few days after thetragedy, the 40 days wildfire took place!...
